MONTEREY, Monterey County — October 27, 2026. Monterey’s neighborhood-improvement program covers a range of everyday recreation needs, from shade at a large group picnic area to safe play for children. The Parks and Recreation Commission’s September 16, 2026 meeting agenda organized a tour of facilities at different stages of development.
Four places, four different stages
At El Estero Park, commissioners were scheduled to review an in-progress shade-structure project at the large group barbecue area, 725 Pearl Street. At 546 Dutra Street, the Madison Street Housing site represents a future park and playground opportunity—not a completed public playground.
The city described the Via Paraiso Park basketball court at 100 Via Paraiso as a recently completed neighborhood improvement. The agenda also listed recent upgrades at Veterans Memorial Park Campground, including basketball and bocce facilities, parking and fencing, together with possible further improvements.
Why status distinctions matter
Residents deciding where to take children should distinguish an already completed court from a planned park or an active construction area. Commission discussion and budget nominations are not construction authorizations for every potential upgrade. The city publishes meeting agendas and public-comment procedures for those tracking neighborhood projects.
