MONTEREY, Monterey County — October 27, 2026. The city’s move toward cleaner municipal operations includes a specific investment in charging infrastructure. A September 1 Council agenda item authorized a construction contract valued at $335,804.19 with InCharge Energy, Inc. for the City Corporation Yard EV Charger Project.
Where the grant funding fits
The item also called for increasing fiscal-year 2027 grant revenue and appropriating $216,988.38. A grant appropriation is a budget mechanism, not proof that chargers are operational or that a vendor has received all contract payments. The contract covers a municipal service facility and should not be mistaken for a public fast-charging station that any vehicle may use.
Why a city fleet can benefit
Reliable municipal charging could help departments manage fleet transition, but the eventual environmental and financial value depends on vehicle use, charging equipment uptime, electricity costs and procurement oversight. The agenda did not provide independently verified reductions in emissions or operating costs.
Residents can review later city utility and fleet reports to see whether the planned equipment has been installed and commissioned. A project’s expected finish may change during design and construction.
